In Deepest Sympathy- Broad Lane North's Oldest Resident .

There is some sad news today. I have been informed that Mr Pritam Singh of Broad Lane North has passed away.
Pritam was a magnificent 109 years of age.

His family have written letters to neighbours explaining why there has been a sudden upsurge in cars visiting his home over the last two days. They have apologised if the parking has caused some difficulties. The family say -

"Our grand father passed away on Monday pm.

He was aged 109 and had a great life.

He was a Gunner in the British Forces in the Singapore & Hong Kong Royal Artillery and a Japanese POW for many years held in Hong Kong.

We apologise for any discourteous parking by any of our family and friends who are coming to pay their respects. The funeral is next Wednesday morning 16th April and I will be sending a 'Dear Neighbour' letter today to provide a contact number if anyone is unfortunately inconvenienced and blocked in."

I want to say how sad I am at hearing this news. But it is clear that Mr Singh, not only fought for our democracy, but he had a 'great life'. I for my part want to wish Manjit and his family our deepest condolences, and sympathy.

But what a great age to live too! Pritam was born in the very same year that the Wright Brothers took to the air!
