Blog On Charity!
Councillor Phil Bateman said "Well a lot has taken place in the last few weeks here in Wednesfield North. There has been a tremendous amount of interest in the siting of telecommunications mast's and there has also been a lot of anxiety! !
But it has not been all bad news. I think that the charity hand over has gone well and the shade under £30,000 that I handed over to the three charities that I nominated when I became Mayor 2005/6 have all written nice letters of support.
Divine Onkar, Everyman, and the Childrens Ward of New Cross Hospital all received over £9,000!
I have also made personal donations of a £100 to Wednesfield Cycle Speedway
£80 to Coppice High School for their appeal for funding for the 'Les Miserables' performance.
Both Mary and I are currently raising funds for the Childrens Society, and Mary has recently given a talk about her year as Mayoress to the Cameo Club as they raise money for Cancer Charities.
I think Mary has done a super job, before she entered 'Civic Life' in May 2005, I would not have given her any chance at all of addressing a crowd! Now she is out giving talks...and enjoying it and helping to raise much needed funds for charity!
