Tree Impeding Boat Traffic - News Update

Here is an update- On the tree causing delays and a hinderance to boat traffic on the Essington and Wyrley Canal.
The Canal & River Trust have up dated me on the situation with regard to the tree that slipped into the Essington & Wyrley canal following the recent big storm this City faced. They tell me that they have had a chance to review the situation now. They inform me that the only issue relating to a tree down in the canal on the Wyrley & Essington was at Pool Hayes Bridge, not Perry Hall Bridge (which is the next bridge along the canal) from Perry Hall Bridge in Wednesfield..

The Canal & River Trust emergency response team were called out to attend the stuck boat, and managed to free the narrow boat on the evening. Unfortunately the tree was too big for the emergency team to pull from the canal - it required specialist contractors to cut up and deal with it due to the size of the fallen tree.

The tree at Pool Hayes Bridge was one of a number that the Canal & River Trust have been dealing with all week. I am reliably informed that the contractor will be removing the trunk either today or tomorrow. In normal circumstances the tree would have been removed sooner but the volume of trees that have fallen in the storm has meant that canal & River Trust resources are somewhat stretched. With luck the canal will be free of hazard today. I want to thank the Canal & River Trust for being quick and spreading the information they have with this site.
