Old Guy on a Bike!

Councillor Phil Bateman Wednesfield North today appealed for friends and family to rally round and give their support to a charity event he is taking part in.

He said “This is an action that I know I am going to regret the following morning, but I have been talked into it by Wednesfield Aces Cycle Speedway Club. I have agreed to take a place on their starting grid for the Charity Cycle Speedway night they are holding on September 20th at the Club track in Ashmore Park Wednesfield.

The proceeds of the night are going to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
I am not built for speed and I am not what you would call a very fit man, so there is a bit of the foolhardy in this decision. But it is for a great cause the Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital is an important medical establishment in the region, and they are always looking for more resources to support their highly skilled and dedicated staff.

Wednesfield Aces are a marquee amateur Cycle Speedway Club here in Wednesfield, long and established, which itself does great work in keeping our youngsters off the street and honing their cycling skills. It’s an honour to do my bit for charity, and I would ask my friends and family as well as the businesses of the area, to support my bid by sponsoring me for the night. Perhaps the unexpected will happen and I could win the race? Then of course I might not!”
