Call for 'Canal Watch' to be set up!

The Essington & Wyrley canal is a great resource for the people of Wednesfield.
It is a ‘wildlife haven’ it is a good fishery, and it is a leisure facility for all the walkers that take advantage of its very rural character, giving peace and quiet and a chance to enjoy nature and all that is around you.
It is also a location for a substantial number of residential properties that backs right down to the canal.

At times this pleasant setting has the peace and quiet upset by unthinking ‘motorcyclists, and the occasional gangs of rowdy youths that cause anti-social problems to the users of the canal facilities and local residents.

Last night at the Wednesfield PACT meeting I raised these issues with the police and there was agreement that the police would make the devil’s elbow bridge tasking priority throughout the summer months.

But for the community to look after its own interest I am keen that we create a ‘Canal Watch’ Group to assist the Police and the British Waterways to keep law and order, and also to enhance and look after the canal side infra-structure.

Anyone interested in taking part in an inaugural meeting or has an alternative view perhaps they would contact me on email@philbateman.com or 01922 403960.
