Wyvern-Good News on Pavement Repairs!

I recently asked the Authority to consider a review of the footways maintenance in Broad Lane North.
This request had been made because of concern I and others have due to the large pools of water being held by the footways, poor drainage, and unsafe paving slabs which are either broken or move when you step on them.

Many residents fear there are real Health and Safety issues here, especially when the water freezes in winter. As has been the case in the recent heavy rain where the water became very deep, drains had become blocked, footways appear to be subsiding, which in turn has formed pools, forcing people to step into the highways.

Therefore I am very pleased to see that in the transportation capital programme for 2012/13 and beyond - which is going to Cabinet that a sum of money has now been identified for future year’s structural maintenance in Broad Lane North.

If Cabinet approves this paper on the 30th May, there will be two schemes that will come forward from this programme that are based in Wednesfield North.

These are identified as Broad Lane North- with the scheme earmarked at £98,000.

Also in the same footway reconstruction programme is Hodson Close on Ashmore Park where £15,000 has earmarked, for the same type of footway reconstruction.
But for both schemes to move forward it will need the City Council's Cabinet to approve. The recommendation from City Officers is however positive. I am delighted that these schemes have been identified, my only wish is that there had been more resources available to deal with similar problems elsewhere within Wednesfield North.
Nevertheless the improvement in the pavement quality when it is finally addressed in Broad Lane North will be well received, as it is a heavily used and strategic pedestrian footway.
