Wednesfield Labour Debates Closure of Jenny Lee Center

Wednesfield Labour Parties also debated the issues surrounding the closure of the Jenny Lee Centre and the change of use and planning application that has been made to demolish the centre and build an extra 200 homes on the site.
Members were sad that the Council had taken this decision. They felt the loss of the community facilities that the ‘assembly hall ‘provided should be retained within the scheme.

This was a unique facility in the Wednesfield area and could not be replaced.

There was also anger at the loss of the excellent sports facilities.

The members recognised that the decisions to close and sell the Jenny Lee Centre was taken by the previous Conservative Liberal Democrat Council, and that the Governments stripping out of public expenditure from Local Authorities did not allow the decisions to be reversed.

But members were still angry about the loss of community facilities from Wednesfield and felt that by expanding residential development on the site and reducing community facilities at exactly the same time was creating an imbalance and deficit that puts Wednesfield very much at a disadvantage.

Members requested that the City Council leadership be made aware of our concerns.
