Kill the Boris Island Airport Before its to Late!

The growing interest in the development of yet another London airport is a real threat to the prosperity of the West Midlands region as it is in other areas of the UK.
The BBC report “Sources close to Mr Johnson said the idea of an airport to the east of London, which would be built partly on reclaimed land, had been gaining ground in conversations with ministers and a formal consultation was a major step forward.”
Passenger demand for London's airports is forecast to increase from 140 million passengers a year in 2010 to 400 million passengers a year by 2050, according to a previous report by the Greater London Authority.
There needs to be a real push by Local Authorities here in the West Midlands to kill this proposal now. Not just on the environmental affects that it will have on wildlife and the flora of this part of the Thames and the South East. But also because of the economic damage yet another London airport will have on our own west Midlands economy.
HST2 will give a lift to our economic performance and it will help Birmingham Airport develop as a (London) regional airport. Why the need of yet another London airport when Birmingham will be so close to London that within less than an hour by train you will be in the heart of London!
My view is that all our West Midlands politicians and the LA’s together should be trying hard now to “kill this idea at birth”. Leave this policy as championed by Boris Johnson, allowing it to mature and catch hold, will increase the potential dangers to the continued development of Birmingham Airport.
My plea is to the regions opinion formers, the regional press and media. Speak up for the regional development of Birmingham Airport, do whatever you can to ensure that ‘Boris Island’ stays a figment of his imagination now.
