The Plaques Are Back!

Good News the Plaques are Back!

Rob and Mary at Frank Hill's Grave -Kranji Singapore 2010

Today the City Council returned the plaques that were attached to the Wednesfield Memorial in the Garden of Remembrance opposite St Thomas's Church.

The return is right on time for the Remembrance Day service on the 13th November. When Wednesfield will turn out in some numbers for traditional march from Wednesfield British legion down to the Parish Church for the service.

I am also very pleased as i have been able to play a role in adding names to the plaque. These are names that were never on the original war memorial, and had been missed off for some reason. The new plaques will ,following an appeal I made, carry five extra names!

This is a great result and is perhaps the only good thing to come from the theft.

Proudly for my wife's family. The new plaque will contain the name of Frank Hill my father in laws brother- who died in Singapore during the battle to save the colony from the Japanese. The family will turn out for this year's Remembrance Day and my brother in law will lay a wreath to remember his uncle after whom he was named.

In December 2010 Mary and I with her brother Robert visited the grave in Singapore to see where Uncle Frank was laid to rest, the first members of the family we believe to do so. It was a very emotional occasion, as I am sure it will be again here at Wednesfield on Remembrance Day.
