Labour's Big Winner's!

Rita Potter and Emma Reynolds The Big Winners on Election Night!

As the Local Election dust starts to settle, the importance of Labour snatching the Bye -Election (caused by Tory Charlotte Quarnby's move to Manchester) in Wednesfield North becomes all too apparent when looking at the make up of the new Council.
The Liberal Democrats continue to play a key role on Wolverhampton Council with Labour gaining one seat from the Conservatives in the local elections.

Labour won one of the two seats up for grabs in Wednesfield North after they had both been Tory-held.

Rita Potter was the winning Labour candidate and she will share power in the ward with Conservative Neil Clarke as she beat into third place Catherine Bisbey – the other Tory candidate – by 108 votes.

The victory by Mrs Potter took the number of Labour seats on the council to 29 with the Conservatives now at 26 and the Liberal Democrats on five.

Phil Bateman Wednesfield North's Secretary and Agent for the campaign said
"The Party worked hard alongside Derek Wollam and Rita Potter throughout the closing weeks of the campaign, as well as providing the support we needed to Emma Reynolds who has worked tirelessly across Wolverhampton North East for her Parliamentary success.

Its clear that politics are important to the people of Wednesfield North, evidence is in the huge turn-out that took place.

We are still analysing the results, but the fact that Rita won the bye - election and Derek who amassed a substantial vote himself, is testimony to the tactics that were eventually played out.

It will not have passed notice that Labour is the largest Party on the Council, and yet the Conservatives with the Liberal Democrats continue to operate as a 'minority council'. The complete opposite of what is being played out on our television screens at Westminster!

We are meeting with the candidates at the end of May and we will be joined by Wednesfield South Labour Party, and a report will be produced on the election for Party members to discuss.

Moving forward we are very much enthused right across Wednesfield by the results that have taken place. A new spring is in our step as we recognise that having the good candidates that we have had, and covering the areas of our neighbourhoods concerns. Is a very powerful combination.

Both Wednesfield North and Wednesfield South want to see a better Wednesfield, and together both Wednesfield Local Labour Parties will work for that!"
