Swash Buckling Centre Forward In Battle Against Cancer

The news that a relatively fit sportsmen is now suffering from cancer was bound to attract the public's attention .

We just do not see our sporting heroes suffering from the same ailments as we do. As a Baggies supporter and one that watched John Hartson batter the opposing teams defence's.

I want to say to that he must tackle this disease with the same swash buckling verve that he bought to the football pitch.

During my period as Mayor of Wolverhampton I spent a year raising awareness and campaigning for funds for 'Everyman' the charity which make's men aware of testicular cancer. This disease is not as well known as 'breast cancer' yet for men it is equally as dangerous.

I do hope that 'Big John' makes a recovery. Many of us who have suffered testicular cancer do.

I just hope that the disease that has spread will be checked by the medical team that now will become a part of his everyday life as his football team once was while his treatment continues.

In the meantime perhaps 'every man' that reads this will just turn his attention to his 'own balls' for a few seconds and check for any swelling or discomfort, if you have the slightest suspicion that something is not right don't leave it too late to seek medical advice.

My fervent hope is that John wins this battle and I wish him the very best of luck and urge him to keep positive.
