Tom Bateman Receives Award-1965

In putting together the Bateman Family History it is a bonus to be able to add individual pieces of information to the web site to help both the family and others to learn a little more about the Bateman's.
I have come across this snippet of information with a photograph that I felt compelled to add to the site.

On the 15th November 1965 my Father Thomas Henry Bateman received this photograph from British Railways London Midland Region Midland House 43 Smallbrook Ringway, Birmingham 5.

It records my Dad Tom and my Mom Eileen at a presentation with ER Williams the Divisional Manager of the London Midland Region, a rare honour for a manual worker at a Goods Depot!

The citation in the correspondence states " I have pleasure in enclosing a copy of the photograph taken when you were presented wit the award in recognition of the help given to the police department on the 20th September."

The "help given" was when the Herbert Street Goods Yard was robbed by a gang in the evening.

My dad who is described as being 'a checker -Wolverhampton' helped stop the raid and assisted the police in trying to catch the men responsible.

Both Dad & Mom worked at the Goods Depot at Herbert Street. Indeed on the 9th August just a month earlier I joined the work force also.

It is a nice piece of memorabilia and worthy of being recorded on the Family History site.
