Drinkers Discard Bottles and Cans

Wednesfield North Labour Party met last night and heard from members that the green space in Kitchen Lane has been once again targeted by drinkers.
Members spoke about the huge numbers of cans and bottles that had been discarded on this important 'green wedge' a site that is maintained by the local authority. The facility itself has a number of wood coppices and has attracted a wide range of birds and mammals as well as providing an opportunity for local children to play ball games on the large expanse of grass that the site offers.

The Ward Party heard that despite constant calls by residents to have this facility regularly cleaned and patrolled their was a feeling that the Local Authority were 'half hearted' in there management and enthusiasm.

Wednesfield North Labour Party heard that a local women living outside the City boundary in Essington had led a campaign to clean up the Copse's and a number of residents have between them litter picked and removed more than half a dozen large sacks of bottles and cans over the last weeks.

These people have brought their own litter pickers and provided the large sacks to remove the offending articles that are dangerous to people, children, pets and wildlife.

Wednesfield North Labour Party whilst welcoming the individual effort that has been moved to take action, still queried why the Local Authority were slow to act, and they questioned the management and contractual arrangements that were in place at such an important leisure facility for the locality.

The Labour Party agreed to write to the Authority with regards to these questions. As well as praising those residents and users of the Kitchen Lane 'green wedge ' for their superb community spirit.
