Labour Prompt's Police Action

Following complaints that have been made by Wednesfield North Labour Party, concerning upsetting incidents in the Broad Lane North area of Wednesfield and allegations of underage drinking and other anti social behaviour grouped around the canal and the Perry Hall Bridge.

A response has now been received from Wednesfield Police following the complaints the organisation made in September.

Wednesfield Police explain that in June they had not received any complaints about Anti Social Behaviour in the area, but during July they received 3 complaints and the response to those complaints were to re-establish patrols to the area.

Inspector Jon Turley reports that "In August there was one report of a robbery we attended but no further complaints of anti social behaviour and in September one complaint was again received." He went onto report that Police Officers and PCSOs are continuing to patrol the area. and that in addition to police officers he has "tasked Neighbourhood Wardens to patrol the area" .

The Police have also requested that the Local Authority Trading Standards make appropriate checks on stores in the neighbourhood that sell alcohol.

Dave Jones the Labour Party candidate in the By Election to be held on the 23rd October said in response to the information. " We are very pleased that the police have responded in a positive way to the complaints that Wednesfield North Labour Party have made on behalf of residents.

It is a fact that there is under age drinking, and we repeat the charge that there is local shops that are selling alcohol to minors. We know that this is the case because local residents keep telling us of their observations.

We can do no more than inform the Authorities which we will continue to do. I would urge local residents to report any incidents at all, in that way we can force action to be taken, this is in essence what is taking place now."

Also in the report provided by Wednesfield Police were facts that relate to other offences that the Police had tackled in the neighbourhood. A number of arrest's had been made for various other offences not specifically in Broad lane, but close to and in direct consequence of their attention to the community issues that Wednesfield North Labour Party had been raising.
