Oil Spill Raises Concern

I was very disappointed to read in the Express and Star about the pollution that has some how entered the Essington & Wyrley Canal near to Olynthus lane and the Devils Elbow bridge.
The canal has been a joy this summer with the footfall very high as residents anglers and others have taken advantage of the work undertaken by the City Council and British Waterways .

The canal is a great local resource and I am pleased to have played a small role Iin its success. Sadly the pollution has claimed the lives of some wild life and it has caused much conversation amongst the users on the towpaths.

I do hope that the Environment Agency is able to pinpoint the incident, and I keep my fingers crossed that it is not a deliberate act of vandalism.

We happen to have a real great local resource on our doorstep and the last thing we want to have is deliberate acts of wanton vandalism. In the meantime I would appeal to residents not to be reticent, if they do view unlawful nuisance or other unlawful acts along our canal........phone the police and do not be afraid to report misdemeanours of this sort.
