Gun Crime

Councillor Phil Bateman said "Gun crime and the use of fire arms is not just a problem for Wolverhampton it is a problem for every City/Town in the country.

There will be people that will be shocked at these statistics, and I hope that this is the case!

If we are not shocked then we will start to be conditioned by the facts, and that will be a very bad thing. Whilst paying tribute to our police for the role they play in protecting and serving our community.

It is right and proper that we should voice our concern that whilst the overall number of crimes using fire arm's have not risen dramatically, what has been slowly growing here in the city has been the injury figures.

The fact that criminals are becoming bold enough not just to threaten but to use their 'tools' is for me the most frightening part of the statistics.

But I want to use these figures to rally our community to help the police crack down on this aspect of crime in our city. It is up to all of us to be alert and pass on any information at all that we have to the police. Information is intelligence and that is the ultimate weapon in tackling the peddlers of fire arms.
