Bus Shelter Vandalism Cost

Bus shelters have become hugely topical here in Wednesfield since the bus shelters on theAshmore Park estate and the Litchfield Road became targets of unwanted vandalism and 36 panes were smashed in one week end.
Councillor Phil Bateman said " I have for the second year requested information with regard to the number of bus shelters we have here in Wolverhampton and the cost that is falling to Counciltax payers to maintain them.

The information has been supplied by Centro, and I am sure that there will of course be some local comments. It is a sizeable sum standing at £80,175 for repairs to broken glass over the periods the figures cover.

My pleas are to the community. There will of course be people who do know who these vandals are I just hope that some one will report the to the police."

Please note that the current glass breakage database was not established until 26 June 2003 so for the
2003 analysis we only have information for part of the year. There was an increase in damages in 2004,
but we must be mindful that more infrastructure is installed every year. In 2005, although more infrastructure
was installed we are changing certain highly vandalised shelters from glass to polycarbonate glazing to
combat the problem of vandalism.
