Danesmore Park School The Next Steps

Councillor Phil Bateman said "Following the public meeting that was a little heated at times at Danesmore Park school today, I thought that I should set out the process as I heard it from the Education Official. The process they will follow is outlined here.

The City Councils Scrutiny Board has 'called in' the proposals and therefore the 'Informal Consultation' cannot proceed until the Board has now deliberated.

This proposal will then be scrutinised by the Board on the 31st October 2006. Following that deliberation a timetable will be set by education officials, and the authority will convene meetings to allow views from the public to be made.

There will be consultation documents passed to parents to seek their views.

The process will be as open as is possible, it is likely to last until Christmas, assuming that the Members of the Council agree with this timetable. When it has gone through the informal consultation and if the authority wishes to pursue their policy, the informal process will become a formal one.

This would take place in the full glare of publicity and will require a notice to be placed in the local press. There will then be a 'report back' to Cabinet at some time towards the end of March. The schools Organisation Committee will then become involved, they are members drawn from other authorities like the church etc.

Today's public meeting was not part of the informal consultation. It was very much organised by the school governors. I hope that this helps sets the scene on the next steps that the City Council are likely to go through with regard to Danesmore. Every parent will have their chance to place their own individual view on how the future should look with regard to Primary Education on Ashmore Park
