Anger In Wednesfield Over Mast Erection

Councillor Phil Bateman said today "There is huge disappointment regarding T-Mobiles decision to continue to construct their telecommunications mast outside of Wood End Shops, Wood End Road Wednesfield."
He added "The situation was that T-Mobile were accused by the City Council of alleged 'Sharp Practice' in gaining the permissions to place the mast at this site. The City Council's Regeneration Director arranged a face to face meeting with the Agents, and had the construction of the mast delayed whilst a search took place for an alternative site for T-Mobile.

This search did not turn-up an alternative site and T-Mobile have continued to erect the mast.

I have been asked what further action can be taken to stop this actually taking place. Like I indicated previously, there is I believe little that can be done. I spoke with the Planning Chair yesterday about the whole situation, there is a recognition that some thing is not right, and Councillor Brookfield is leading a discussion with Officers about mast policy.

There is a chance that a complaint against the Local Authority through the Ombudsman for Maladministration may get the decision scrutinised. But again I am not sure that even if the Ombudsman ruled that Maladministration had taken place, that he would have the power to reverse the decision. But it is a course of action open to residents.

A new application is being processed by Daly International acting as Agents for T-Mobile for yet another mast. This time on Lichfield Road opposite the Broadway Public House on a verge between two mature trees. Residents and interested groups will want to know that I have been given 14days from the 29th September to make comments. I received the document yesterday the 3rd October so the countdown has begun. Please email me your comments on this site quickly so that I can help martial the response. The email address is email@philbateman.com."
