£17,000 Raised In Wolverhampton

Yesterday Wednesday 19th April the Mayoress and I attended a Church Service in St Thomas's Church in Wednesfield High Street for Wolverhampton Children's Society, following an invitation by Alderman Seiboth the Society's Chairman.
Councillor Bateman Mayor of Wolverhampton said " We enjoyed the Church service very much, the Mayor's Chaplain Reverend John Points the Rector of St Thomas's took the Church service and gave a very fine sermon.

Churches from across Wolverhampton and Essington were represented.

Wolverhampton Children's Society raised the magnificent sum of £17,823.86p during the course of the year.

A third of this amount came from Children Society boxes...where families take a box home and at the end of the day place loose change from their pockets into the boxes!

A simple and easy way to raise funds..I also agreed to have one of these boxes in my home to raise funds!

I was that impressed with the sum gathered by the members. The Children's Society does a really great job in trying to support the 100,000 children that run away from home in the course of a yera! A figure so large that I was astounded when informed.

The charity which is church based is very much challenged to ensure that children who are in trouble with the law are not locked up and forgotten, but receive proffesional help to turn their lives around.

I am impressed by the way that the Children's Society is responding to these challenges with a degree of verve and imagination. It is so good to see Wolverhampton playing its part in raising the maginificent sums that it has during this year."

This year marks the 125th anniversary of the Children's Society."
