Action and Co Operation

Here is an update for Wednesfield North residents concerning the vexed issue of motor bikes being used off road and causing nuisance.
In just a few days I have contacted the police and have received a very firm assurance that action has been planned to tackle this problem. I am very grateful to Superintendent Mike Treble for his comments. Here is what Superintendent Treble has written to me.

"The problem associated with Gopeds and Off Road Motorbikes is one that is affecting many residents across the City of Wolverhampton and further a field. It is one that needs local intervention assisted by force resources where necessary. We view it as a serious problem on the G2 Police Command so much so that we have identified it as a local priority running alongside other more traditional priorities of reducing Burglary and Vehicle Crime.

This is a problem that we recognise can seriously impact upon residents quality of life.

We have conducted many initiatives over recent months that have involved targeted patrols by our Road Policing Unit using Police Off Road Bikes combined with an awareness raising campaigns to deter parents from purchasing and allowing the use of such machines.

We are working closely with colleagues in Trading Standards to see if there is any work that we can do with the manufacturers and/or retailers, this is very much work in progress.

Meanwhile we will continue to conduct patrols in areas where the problem exists and we will seek to take appropriate action against those caught offending.

In relation to incidents occurring on our canal networks. We are increasing our pedal cycle stock to 18 across the OCU. These will be available to our neighbourhood officers who will be actively encouraged to use them on canals and other areas where problems exist and offenders are known to frequent."

I have also been in touch with Councillor David Clifft JP of Essington Parish Council, and I am pleased to report that he is already pushing Staffordshire Police on the issue on their side of the County boundary line.

I aim to arrange to meet with Councillor Clifft to ensure that we can maximise and co-ordinate a response that will reduce the nuisance and vandalism that is taking place along the old mineral railway adjacent Kitchen Lane Ashmore Park.

I am very pleased that in a matter of a few days that such an enthusiastic response can be arranged against the nuisance that my constituents have had to put up with.

I am more than pleased with Wednesfield police response to canal side tow path problems. I will again be asking to meet with the local officers so that residents can be informed of any success that has been achieved in their tactical response to canal side nuisance."
