Boing! Boing and Plain Bob Royal!

The Mayor and Mayoress visited the bell ringers of St Peter's on April 24th.What a fabulous evening we had high up in the Tower of the church with a real enthusiastic bunch of bell ringers!!
We had all the usual jokes about Quasimodo, as we climbed the steep and very narrow staircase before we reached halfway. Then we collapsed into the best kept secret club in the City!

Now I am used to boinging on the terrace at the Baggies. But there was some serious boinging going on here in the tower. So much so that the 'club house' was rocking and then they told me it was the tower that was actually moving back and forwards with the ringing of the 8 bell's!

The Ring Master James Ridgway made the arrangements so that they could show the Mayor 'the ropes' and give him a tour of the tower, including the bells and the view from the top!
It was a really great experience, all those bell ringers pulling their cords in tune and those massive bells boinging...........what fun! A glass of wine a few nibbles and then we were off right to the top! The Mayor and the Mayoress at the top of Wolverhampton.

We also climbed right up into the Tower and had a fabulous view from the highest point in the City.

Can I thank the organisers, and yes if you are interested they are very much after younger people( though to be honest I think the average age of the 18 people that were present was pretty young any way) so if you fancy making music with 8 bell's. Here is the place to be!

We had a fabulous visit and I am informed that they felt that we were the first Mayor and Mayoress in Office to play a peel on the bells. I received a lovely certificate in a frame which comemerated the day when we had our Civic service, Saturday June 11 2005 when the St Peters Bells played a Quarter Peel of 1260 changes of 'Plain Bob Royal. Just Smashing eh Boing Boing!!!
