Mayor of Rentis Visits Wolverhampton Today

Today sees the arrival in Wolverhampton, of the Mayor of Rentis Mr George Loakimidis along with his wife, who are making an official visit to Wolverhampton.
The Mander Centre Manager Graham Evans is hosting much of the visit, as there are plans to link Wolverhampton with Athens via a ‘Hole in the World’ which is well under way.

During the course of the week end The Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Phil Bateman MBE and The Mayor of Rentis, Mr George Loakimidis will be invited to dig the first spadefuls of earth from the proposed site of this initiative.

The Hole in the World will officially launch during the Easter holidays and will enable shoppers in both Wolverhampton and Greece to see each other in real time through wishing wells, and of course the ability of modern technology!

Councillor Phil Bateman said " Tonight I shall be hosting a civic dinner for our guests, in the Mayor's Parlour. Those attending the dinner will include leading local politicians, a diplomat from Greece, the Mander Centre Management team. We were well looked after when I visited Athens with the Mayoress a few weeks ago, when the project was being set up. I intend to ensure that our guest's are also made to feel very welcome whilst they are here.

On Saturday morning we will be involved with a Gift Exchange at 11.45am on the 5th Floor, Mander House.

The Mayors of Wolverhampton and Rentis and The Centre Managers of The Mander Centre and The Village Park Shopping Centre ( Athens) will exchange gifts in The Management Suite. Later in the day Steve Bull footballing hero of Wolverhampton Wanderer's will also be introduced as he welcomes our Greek visitors. This will take place at 1.00pm in the Haywood Suite, Molineux Stadium – The local Press and Media have been invited.

Having previously met the Mayor in Athens I know that he is very much a football fan and he is very keen to watch Wolves vs. Cardiff at The Molineux Stadium. I think that the Mander Centre Manager Graham Evans has come up with a very nice touch by inviting our local footballing legend Steve Bull to welcome our guests ahead of their lunch in the Haywood Suite.

We will of course be doing all that we can to ensure that the Mayor and his wife remember and enjoy their time in our great City of Wolverhampton. We are very pleased to once again play a role in internationalising our City"
