Wolverhampton's Finest Wins Mayor's Award!

On Friday the 24th February In the Mayor's Parlour The Mayor's 'Certificate of Excellence' were Awarded to a select group of Wulfrunians.

Councillor Phil Bateman MBE Mayor of Wolverhampton said today "I am pleased to announce a further seven citizens that have been honoured.

This is one of the very best initiatives that I have introduced, since becoming Mayor of the City of Wolverhampton. The 'Mayor's Certificate of Excellence' is a joy to award, and is really valued by its recipients.

This certificate has been awarded to persons/organisations who have been quite selfless in their attitude to others, or who have made a significant difference to the quality of life of our great City of Wolverhampton.

The certificate is in the Mayor's own gift and I have had the greatest pleasure in awarding seven ''Certificates of Excellence'' to citizens who have given their time to others, or who have consistently made life better for other less fortunate citizens.
My chosen Award winners were ;

Mrs Rosemary Cox - Recognised by the Mayor for her 50 years of charitable work with Dr Barnardo's Home.

Danny Gleeson - Recognised by the Mayor for his personal courage .

Terry Green - Recognised by the Mayor for his services to Ashmore Park Choir and for music within the community.

Barry Noakes - Recognised by the Mayor for his dedication and service to Wolverhampton City Mayor's.

Pat Reynolds - Recognised by the Mayor for her dedication to the Mayor's Charity.

Sheila Groome- Recognised by the Mayor for her work with children's dance schools and for local charity work for more than 60years.

Bill Evans - Recognised by the Mayor for his services to the Wednesfield British Legion and Remembrance Day.

All the recipients met in the Mayor's Parlour and after the Awards were presented, had tea and cakes with the Mayor and Mayoress.

Prior to this latest ceremony there were two previous 'Certificate of Excellence' winners.

These were Football referee Derek Enefer from Oxley, who had been recognised by the Mayor for his 40 years services to local football with the award of a 'Certificate of Excellence' on the 11th August 2005.

The second 'Certificate of Excellence' recipients were Wednesfield Aces Cycle Speedway Club, who received their Award on the 18th October 2005, for attracting youngsters to a sport and keeping them off the streets, despite enormous setbacks.
