Mayor Takes Book Of Condolence To London

The Mayor Councillor Phil Bateman is to attend the Greater London Assembly at Noon on Friday 27th January to present the 'Book of Condolences' signed by Wulfrunians following the terrible bombing disaster that took place in London on 7th July 2005.
He will be delivering the feelings of Wolverhampton to the Chief Executive of the London Assembly.

Councillor Bateman said, " It is only right and fitting that the Mayor of the City should deliver the important thoughts and feelings of Wulfrunians, who had expressed their grief following that horrific terrorism that took place on the 7th July, by hand.

I recall that I spoke these words when we commemorated the dead and prayed for the injured. I think that those words are as relevant today, as they were on the 14th July just seven days after the event.

When I spoke in Queens Square to the people of Wolverhampton of the pain and suffering London was then facing, we did not know what the future was to hold. This City and the Country were holding its breath. Appeals were made for communities to pull together, to be vigilant and watchful, but also to respect each other.
That is the speech I delivered in Wolverhampton on the 14th July. I believe that it is right and fitting that I should deliver the hope and the pain that is etched in this 'Book of Condolences' by Wolverhampton folk.....direct to the heart of London's Local Government."
