Aces Get Euro Championship

Councillor Dave Jones and Councillor Phil Bateman ( Labour Wednesfield North) today welcomed the news that Wednesfield Aces Cycle Speedway had been selected by the organisation that oversees the UK sport, as the venue for the European Riders Championship in July 2006.
Councillor Dave Jones said it is a tremendous coup for the Club especially when you consider that only a few weeks back they were facing the worst vandalism seen at the track ever." The Event is due to take place over the week end of the 21st and 22nd and 23rd of July.
This will consist of the Open Championship and the Junior ChampionshipThe whole event will be covered by Sky TV.

Councillor Phil Bateman said " This is great news for Ashmore Park, Wednesfield and the City of Wolverhampton. With out doubt this Club Wednesfield Aces, are one of the best run sporting clubs here in the City. I know that they are actively seeking sponsorship to help stage this wonderful event and I would appeal to Wolverhampton Business to look to helping them with their request for sponsors.

Councillor Jones added " We will take up with the City Council the sort of help that they can offer. Things like a coat of paint on the approaches to the cycle track, painting the garage doors that front the venue and other sorts of help. Both Phil and I are very excited that Wednesfield Aces have pulled this event off. It is a great way of showcasing the best of sporting achievement in a genuine European championship.....move over Birmingham Wolverhampton is after your sporting events crown!"
