Concerns About Skate Boarding

There are major concerns amongst shop keepers on Ashmore Park about the use of skate boards on the shopping parade.
At a recent meeting held with City Officials and Councillors, traders raised their concerns for the safety of public assets and the danger that the boarders were to elderly shoppers who were not quite so nimble on their feet!

Councillor Phil Bateman replied " There is obvious concern and I believe that the City Council have a duty to ensure that this important shopping facility that they own is safe for use by everyone.

I am also keen that we see a skate board park for young people being placed on the Park, with the advent of construction work taking place on the shopping parade, there will be even less space for pedestrians.

We just cannot afford to have young people riding bikes and skate boarding in this type of situation. I shall be urging the police and the City Council to ensure that shoppers are not placed in any danger by these young persons activity.

In the meantime I will also press again for a skate board facility that can provide these young people with the challenge that they want."
