Another Crash On Linthouse Lane

Councillor Phil Bateman said "Last night I witnessed the aftermath of yet another bad crash on the Linthouse Lane near the canal bridge. It was simply horrendous, and I have no doubt that speed played a major part in the collision.
I have along with residents been campaigning for measures that would assist in reducing speed along the length of Linthouse Lane.

I am pleased that we have had one speed camera erected in the lower part of the Lane. But I along with residents have been highlighting to officers that there has been a high number of accidents taking place near to the bridge. There is a plan to introduce new traffic calming measures in this financial year.

But the progress has been slow. Residents were contacting me as far back as November 2002, as speed was noticeably building on the Lane. I believe that we are on the cusp of new measures that will help reduce speed, but it is very hard to accept what appears to be a very slow process.

Having seen the extent of the damage caused last night, and not knowing what injuries were sustained by those involved, I can only believe that they were substantial. I shall be contacting Road Safety Chiefs urging them to bring forward these road safety measures without further delay.

I can well understand my constituents concerns for the safety of their own family's, and their own property. Finally can I appeal to drivers not to use Linthouse Lane as a racetrack! It is a suburban roadway. Last nights smash will be causing huge grief to the families of those involved."
