Visit to Moreton School

Last night we were invited as the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress to Moreton Schools Celebration of Achievement night.

It was a real eye opener to see the pupils of this school celebrating their achievements in the style that they did. . Moreton for 5 years in a row have had GCE Results that have improved upon the last. Indeed they received Government recognition of their success when they received a letter stating that the school was amongst the most 100 most improved schools in the country.

They informed me that this was the second year in a row where they have been commended and this of course in a field that contains more than 4,000 secondary schools.

The year 11 students put on a fabulous evening amongst the highlights were several what can only be described as mini Midlands Today News shows...with Guests Nick Owen and ....Shefali the weather girl.

Having those two celebrities was a coup but what they made them do was hilarious! Ken Purchase MP who has a long and close relationship with the school was also a guest. Ken made a very inspiring speech to the youngsters. All in all Mary and I enjoyed the evening immensely. But even more than that was to see the vibrant way in which a school that was in special measures just 5 years ago had organised celebrated and inspired their young people.
