Mary Blower (Phil Bateman's Great Aunt)

Mary Blower was my great Aunt she was my Grandmothers sister. She was born in 1897 on the 18th November in Wolverhampton
She died on the 27th March 1970 at Summerfield Hospital in Birmingham. She was a retired Nurse indeed she was a qualified Sister. A very large woman when she died always wearing a bun to keep her long grey hair up! She owned her own home and was a Spinster. Her house was at 3 Mayfield Terrace Ellen Street Birmingham 18. It was the subject of a compulsory planning order by Birmingham City Council and a high rise block of flats now stand on what was her former house in Birmingham.

Aunt Mary was a grand old woman and was living with us in Ashmore Park before she died. This was due to an attack that she had. She stayed with us for about 7 months as I recall before returning to Birmingham.
The death Certificate informs us that Aunt Mary died from cerebral arterio-sclerosis & Ischaemic heart disease. The Doctor who certified the certificate was Dr Patel MB . Ironic really because Aunt Mary big hearted woman as she was and very generous to her family was more than a little racist!
But for me I loved this woman who always turned up with a bag full of goodies as she 'rolled down' the road. She had a very noticeable rolling gait. But more of Aunt Mary later.!
