Deputy Mayor Music for Pleasure

Once again we were filling in for the Mayor last night this time at Wolverhampton University Arena Theatre, where along with the Mayor of Dudley and the Deputy Mayor of Walsall we were entertained by the marvellous and evocative Shrinivas and his silky Mandolin music.

Shrinivas 3rd Right With Mandolin

Both the Deputy Mayoress and myself where swept away on this magical music evening. The event had been organised by Surdhwani. The Society for the Promotion of Asian Arts and Culture. The name Surdwhani means melodious sounds, and Shrinivas with his supporting musicians certainly lived up to the name.

Mary and Richard Worrall

At times I closed my eyes and just let the music pour over me. I remembered those marvellous Natural History programmes on India from the BBC and this mandolin maestro’s music just swept you away to those far off shores…magical sheer magical!

Both Mary and I enjoyed the evening. Surdwani’s mission is to break down the social and cultural barriers and promote peace and harmony. We met some old friends at the concert, and it was good to bump into Richard Worrall from Walsall. Richard was until recently the Chair of the West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority, and Rob Marris the MP for Wolverhampton South West.

The only part of the evening that was unsettling was the very uncomfortable seat. I can tell you that even though I am Deputy Mayor my bum still goes numb on the sort of seat I had to endure last night!
