Call For Neighbourhood Watch

At Tuesday nights Ashmore Park Police Liaison meeting there was a strong core of support for Wednesfield Police to breathe new life into the Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
Councillor Phil Bateman said “There were people in the meeting that were some what frustrated by the lack of perceived support from the force for Neighbourhood Watch schemes in Wednesfield North.

It appears from the debate that some very community minded co-ordinators had been…well abandoned by the police. The comments being made were that whilst there was enthusiasm in some places in the area, because the police support had been patchy, interest had waned in other neighbourhoods.

The police constable present reported that Wednesfield Police were starting to address this issue again and a recent newsletter had instigated a response from about 20 people who were either already co-ordinators, or were interested in Neighbourhood Watch.

I for my part am quite keen to see these schemes developed right across Wednesfield North. I want to see the community acting together to reduce crime and the fear of crime. More than that I want to see vandalism and graffiti and anti social behaviour stamped out, and I believe schemes like Neighbourhood Watch can help in that remit.”
