Wolverhampton- University City

The fact that Wolverhampton has a University , well is just a fact of life to may Wulfrunians as they go about there business everyday. It certainly does not wear heavily on their mind. But the University has become a major economic cornerstone to the City economy.

As well as providing world wide focus on the education provision it brings to Wolverhampton. It also provides the young people that we see thronging our streets during term times, filling the coffee bars and the pubs and clubs at night. Providing much needed revenue for the leisure and catering businesses in the City.

Councillor Phil Bateman said " The decision to give the former Wolverhampton Polytechnic University status has proven to be a winner for education and for Wolverhampton City as a whole. The economic benefits that Wolverhampton and the rest of the Black Country gets from the finished product...the graduates, is nothing short of tremendous.

Along with the other seven local Universities in the West Midlands, Wolverhampton and the Black Country see 34,000 graduates flooding out of their seats of learning, taking their skills and offering them to business ,industry, leisure. and commercial sectors. Of course many of those graduates stay and add to the pool of skills we require here.

We do have a lot to offer business and Industry, from location right through to education, and a vibrant City in every sense of the word. We have our history and development rooted in the Black Country and we have our future in the Black Country. More than 450 companies from 25 different countries have chosen to make the Black Country their home since 2001. Thats tremendous news for Wulfrunians.

So next time you pass the University or see some foreign students in the streets just give a thought to why they have chosen to be here in our City....."
