There is always a balance to make between being a city Councillor and your full time job, it is often difficult especially when the two commitments compete for the same date in your diary. Inevitably there is a degree of conflict as you make the choice between employer and constituent.
One way over this issue is to use the annual leave you build up at work, this is not highly popular with family, who also expect you to find some time for them!

Being a Councillor is not all roses, there are plenty of conflicts, many are quite unpleasant, some are sad, same are plain exciting. This week I have dealt with cases where people are looking for accomodation, complaining about litter and dumping, garage vandalism, police issues and I have been on a visit as Chair of the South Staffs Water Company, Customer Consultative Committee to their business at Echo. Where they deal with customer complaints, enquiries and billing problems...impressive and very slick in operation.

I also visited the South Staffs Water Company's new bottling plant where they have recently started bottling their own brand mineral water 'Elmhurst Spring' direct from their own water resource. Watching this new plant in action bottling good quality water was very interesting. The business titled 'Aqua Direct' has two bore holes that provide the water resource. Elmhurst Spring and Maple Spring. Both sources are from boreholes sunk deep into Triassic stone aquifers up to 250 metres deep....the quality of the water is very good.
