Police Row Breaks

Wednesfield North Labour Party is very keen to see crime slashed and the detection of crime improved.

Councillor Phil Bateman said today " We are not jumping head long into slanging match with the police about the possibility of Ashmore Park losing yet another policeman. Last nights Ashmore Park Police Liaison Committee did I believe receive such a report.

But the facts really need to be ascertained before any battle is joined, what I would like to pose to our electorate here in Wednesfield North is this simple point. If we do have a crisis and we are faced with the loss of police cover? Which team of candidates do you think will be best able to argue our case with the Constabulary and the West Midlands Police Authority?

Labours candidates Councillor Phil Bateman,Gwen Stafford Good a former City Mayor and already an experienced former Councillor of years standing, Dave Jones a formidable and experienced trade union official?

Because that appears to be the choice that Wednesfield people will have tomorrow on Polling Day.

Let me set out our view on police cover, it is true to say that we want more not less, I also want to see better support from the Local Authority who also have a part to play, as indeed does the community in which I live in improved law and order.

If it proves true that we are to suffer a cut, then I am sure that we will have the support of our community in taking the issue up with the police forces own high command. But the choice is very much now with the electorate, and on a very live and important local political issue. Use your three votes for Labour and ensure that you have a pugnacious and experienced team of local Councillors that will fight for Wednesfield North."
