Adopt Reynolds Walk Now

Back on the 20th November residents in Reynolds Walk informed me that they were fed up with the fact that part of their road is unadopted and showing signs of wear and tear. I posted the complaint on Councillor Phil Bateman On Line.

Councillor Phil Bateman said " This is a ridiculous situation, this was a Council estate built and designed by the Local Authority I cannot quite understand how a small part of a road that makes up a small part of the estates road network can be left as 'unadopted'.

But it has remained like that for too long and this issue needs to be addressed now. I believe that the City Council need to adopt the bit of Reynolds Walk- and it is a small part of the road- and bring it into the maintenance regime immediately. I will keep you informed of the response I receive."
I have now had a response to that article and it is re-printed here for residents to see. "Reynolds Walk is adopted as public highway up to the turning head outside 87 and the junction outside 26. We (Highways) undertake safety inspections on behalf of Housing on other public areas(mainly forecourt areas and access ways) and any maintenance required is undertaken on behalf of Housing and paid for from Housing budgets. In that sense they are adopted by the Council but not as public highways. signed Bob Barrett"
Phil Bateman adds " whilst it may not be the most corporate of solutions the important issue for residents is that it appears that the City Council retains the ownership and responsibility for repair and maintenance. I am pleased that we have cleared up this issue. Cost and maintenance should not fall on individuals if in the future capital works are required"
