Strange But True

How about this for a strange but true occurrence.

In the City Council deep in its deepest crevasse is the Labour Members Room. One day last week a member picked the phone up as it was ringing long and loud. At the other end of the phone was a woman who preceded to ask " how a young lady and her baby was getting on?. My Councillor colleague was taken a back by this conversation....wanting to know why she was asking him about a new born baby!.

The woman explained in sharp tones this was the maternity unit wasn't it?

My colleague explained noooo. Its the Labour Members room . Only the first part of the sentence is correct. But I am Chairman of the Health Scrutiny Committee if that is any use?!

Me thinks the telephone service is labouring here a little..
