Police Action Supported

West Midlands Police and our local station at Wednesfield have done much to reduce burglary, violence and car related crime over the last twelve months, in Wednesfield North.

These are all big crime issues and as you will see from information already posted on this site Wednesfield North is seen to be a low crime area.Yet the one area of crime statistics that are causing me concern in the Ward is the Anti Social Behaviour issue.

I have written to Chief Superintendent Duffin the local commander and he has responded with the following information. I have reproduced his comments and I support the police in their attempts to gain control."
Chief Superintendent Duffin wrote "The issue you raise is a key one for West Midlands Police. Crimes like robbery and house burglary and vehicle crime are being reduced across Wolverhampton. Those crimes are prioritised because they are the ones that disturb people most. As those crimes are being reduced people appear to feel more anxious about crime and their safety. We are tackling this in two particular ways - improved responses to anti-social behaviour and increased
emphasis on public reassurance. An example of the one of the things we are
doing to address peoples concerns is - Early next month a new member of police
staff will start at Wednesfield funded under the national BCU Fund. This
person will focus exclusively on co-ordinating activity to reduce anti social
behaviour."
Councillor Phil Bateman added " I am fully behind the police in their proposals to tackle the anti social behaviour issue, and would urge all citizens to help the police by reporting incidents to them."
