Tram Naming

Tomorrow Wednesday 13th August, a Tram naming ceremony takes place at Wolverhampton St Georges metro stop. Former Councillor Alan Garner will have a tram named after him. Councillor Phil Bateman said " Alan was a great guy I am pleased that his widow Mary and daughter Mel will be there to witness the occassion. Alan was a great guy who believed and cared for the community he represented.
I know that I feel proud that he was my friend, and I am sure that there were very many schemes that he was involved with. But his support for the metro was strong, and as a long serving member of the RMT trade union, and a railworker all his life. He knew and demonstrated the benefit that rail based technology can bring to a City, neighbourhood, and community. I expect that we shall all stand there with a very large lump in our throat as the West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority honour a very committed man.It is an honour that is richly deserved."
