Crime doubled under the Tories
Shadow Home Secretary Oliver Letwin visited Brixton in south London to make
a speech on crime on Wednesday.
However the reality is that crime doubled
under the Tories, and with the Tories pledged to cut public spending by 20
per cent, then fewer police on the streets would not help combat crime. Home
Office minister Caroline Flint said: "The Tories have not learnt their
lesson. Oliver Letwin is committed to massive cuts to public spending.
During the last general election he drew up Tory plans to slash public
spending by £20 billion. Now he has gone further and is supporting the
Tories' commitment to 20 per cent spending cuts across the board. The
Tories' plans would inevitably mean dramatic cuts to spending on the police
and the resources they have to fight crime." More:
