Wednesfield North Labour Party

Report for Ashmore Park Residents Association
Councillor Phil Bateman 4th June 2003

Councillor Phil Bateman contacted Wolverhampton City Council concerning the future of footpath 314. Footpath 314 links New Invention with Broad Lane North at the point close to the Broad Lane North canal bridge. An application for planning permission for a small housing development at this site meant that change was needed for the access and egress arrangements for the footpath. The new arrangements means the footpath stays open and will be treated and lit.

Linthouse Lane
Work on the access way from Kitchen Lane commences next week. This will allow residents to park at the front of their homes.Stopping the annual problems of being stuck in the mud.

Cut Benefit Fraud 2nd June 2003
Councillor Phil Bateman said
" Cut benefit fraud by ringing
the National Benefit Fraud
Hotline on 0800 854 440, if you
know of benefit fraud taking
place".

Dear Councillor Bateman,
Twyford Grove Oaklands Closure Of Alleyway.

We have more or less completed the consultations i.e. Police, Neighbourhood Teams, other community groups to ensure that full consultation is demonstrated. Members will then be consulted about the areas designated and the reasons for the choice. Our programme is to report to Cabinet Teams and the Crime and Disorder Partnership in July.Following approval of the areas a submission to Government will be made. The process of closing footpaths as a result of anti social behaviour will probably start toward the end of the year.

City Council

News on the Shopping Parade

The Ashmore Park Shopping Parade is inspected every six months the inspections have shown category 2 defects which were dealt with at the time and are deemed to be non urgent.

There is however concern about the conditions of the canopy this means that it is to have a further examination , this examination will lead to an understanding of what action is needed to put it right.

Councillor Phil Bateman said today “This may be the case but I am still concerned about the quality of the walking surface. The elderly people that fall have suffered quite badly. I am not sure that the Council is capturing all the accidents.

But I am pleased with Mr Borrowman and his thorough investigation and I hope that if remedial work is required it is carried out swiftly.”

Skate boarding sport or nuisance?

Skate boarders contacting Councillor Phil Bateman are up in arms over the lack of proper facilities where they can..well…skateboard!
Councillor Phil Bateman said today “I have recently had a number of contacts with persons who have been quite vocal over the lack of facilities for their use on Ashmore Park.

Some of the contact could have been better phrased but in short there is some anger that the Council has failed to act since a petition was presented some time ago requesting a skateboard park.

Rick Corfield is one of the skate boarders that has e-mailed me and suggested that;

“The Ashmore Park skateboard scene has been growing for the last 2-3 years now and is as popular as ever. I have spoken to various people about the rumour of the skate park being built. As of yet nothing has started, have you forgotten about us again after all those petitions?
Car Crime Is Serious 1st May 2003
Car Crime Is Serious
“Car Crime is a serious issue” states Inspector John Turley in a letter to Councillor Phil Bateman.
Phil had written to Wednesfield Police concerning the number of abandoned vehicles and the other car crime that was happening within Wednesfield North.

Inspector Turley has responded by stating that car crime is a serious issue, one that we in the Police Service target and police vigorously, please be assured that this is most certainly the case in the Ashmore Park area as anywhere else.

He goes onto say “Should you or any one of your constituents receive any information that may lead to the identification of persons in car crime, I should be pleased to hear from them.”

Councillor Phil Bateman says “So there is the challenge, the police will enforce the law if the community provides the information. Therefore can I appeal to people who have any information on car crime or any other crime? Contact the local police or myself or even the crime stopper number 0800 555111, and give the information so that we can make safer the community that we live in.”
