City Labour Councillor Defects to the Tories!

You may have already heard that one of our councillors has inexplicably defected from our Party.

At a time when our Labour Council is being forced by the Tory Government to make choices about services in Wolverhampton, the move is imprudent and irresponsible.

The Labour Group is fighting tooth and nail to protect people across Wolverhampton from the cuts imposed by the Tories and no decision has been made without serious deliberation.

It is disappointing that Cllr Shah has chosen a 3rd party in as many years. We hope that he will be happier working with a party that has disproportionately cut over £200 per person from Wolverhampton's budget, whilst giving leafy Wokingham a £20 per person budget boost.

Writing the budget this year was difficult.

But be assured; it is only Labour who stood up to fight against the Tory Government’s cuts and to lessen the impact on our City of Wolverhampton. The Tories were too weak to put forward any proposal and simply accepted their Tory Government’s cuts.

We need to get the message out that Labour is fighting hard against the Tory cuts; the message is that Labour Councillors across the City are representing ordinary families to make sure that those who need it most are protected.

Perhaps the reason for the defection is more about opportunism than it is about soul and belief!
