Amnesty International - Demonstration Queens Square!

Amnesty International are holding a demonstration on Saturday 22nd at Queens Square Saturday at 2.00pm
Please join us in Queen's Square at 2 pm on Saturday March 22 2014

The conflict in Syria is the greatest humanitarian crisis of our times. It has raged for nearly three years, claimed the lives of over 130 000 people and forced nearly 9 million people from their homes. More than 11 000 children have been killed in the conflict and a million more are living as refugees. Sustained action around the world is needed to get sufficient aid to all those caught up in the Syria crisis and to make progress towards a political solution.

During March 2014, the third anniversary of the Syria uprising, there will be a series of activities around the world, organised by a coalition of human rights and humanitarian organisations, including Amnesty, Oxfam, Save the Children and Christian Aid, in order to show solidarity with the people of Syria and to urge members of the UN Security Council to ensure the effective implementation of resolution 2139 of February 22 2014. This means, among other points, the lifting of sieges on civilians, unfettered humanitarian access and an end to arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances and abductions.

In Wolverhampton the local Amnesty International group will be meeting in Queen's Square on March 22 at 2 pm to get signatures for a petition, distribute leaflets and to participate in a photo opportunity. We do hope that you will be able to come along and will let others know about this invitation.
