Police Make £2,500 Grant To Wednesfield British Legion

Phil Bateman former Mayor of Wolverhampton today praised West Midlands Police
I was so pleased to see that £2,500 to the Wednesfield and Woodend Royal British Legion for work on the club’s toilet facilities, has been granted by West Midlands Police.

This money is taken from criminals!

In fact West Midlands Police has awarded nearly £250,000 in cash grants to local community groups since 2002.

The force runs the largest scheme in the country to share out funds raised through the Police Property Act and has distributed £246,000 since the first grant was made seven years ago.

The cash, raised through auctions of property detained by police, has been used to buy new equipment and improve facilities for nearly 300 groups in the area.

The property up for auction will have been taken as evidence in a crime or during a raid on suspect properties and been held in police possession for 12 months.

The money raised is then put back into the community to help groups representing people of all ages and from all walks of life.

Personally I think that this legislation passed by our Government is a great way of ensuring that money and property taken back from criminals is put to good use in the community. Well done West Midlands Police!
