Police Urged to Act

Following on from the successful environmental work that has taken place on the Essington and Wyrley Canal at Wednesfield, affectionately known by boaters as the 'curly wyrley' comes the bad news that anti social behaviour is getting worse at the Perry Hall Bridge on Broad Lane North.
Tonight a local resident called at my home as she had been abused by local youths that were drinking and were intoxicated. Not only was she verbally abused, they threw bottles and cans at her as she walked her dog.

This is not the first time this summer that reports like this has happened, but the incidents are getting worse because there appears to be little or no police presence, despite requests previously made about the problem.

Tonight I called 999 and reported the matter direct to the police whilst the resident was still at my door. I am going to follow the matter up once again with the local police because a local shop is clearly selling under age youngsters booze, and this area of the canal needs to be patrolled properly. I am told all the good work that has taken place in creating good walkways is being undermined by the cans and bottles that are being discarded and the threats being made to residents by these groups.

Anti social behaviour must not be ignored, even though I am no longer a local Councillor pride and civic responsibility leads me to call for action on this type of activity. I will also be pressing my friend and Labour candidate for Wednesfield North Dave Jones to take this matter up with the Authorities
