Just 67 Individuals Commit The Most Crime

At the Safer Communities Scrutiny Panel Richard Carr Chief Executive of the City Council and Chairman of the Safer Wolverhampton Partnership was questioned quite closely, about the work of the partnership and of some key statistics.
Councillor Bateman said " It is estimated that in England and Wales with a combined population of 52 million that just 100,000 people commit half of all crime! That just 5,000 offenders commit almost one in ten crimes!

I think this is an astounding statistical fact. So much so I asked Mr Carr what the figures for crime was here in Wolverhampton.

Mr Carr could not answer that question at the meeting but he has now responded. He informs me that the number of prolific offenders responsible for the most crimes in Wolverhampton number 67.

In dealing with this statistic the Prolific and Priority Offenders Scheme has been set up. This is a partnership of a number of organisations the prime objective is to protect the public reduce crime and rehabilitate offenders.

I am hopeful that the scheme will work. Reducing crime by reducing the contact that just 67 individuals are having on the City is a worthy goal indeed. "
