Guns In Wednesfield

The news that two incidents in Wednesfield relating to the alleged use of guns on Friday will chill many residents blood.
Councillor Phil Bateman said "The news that two incidents in Wednesfield relating to the alleged use of guns will chill many residents blood.

The incidents in Griffiths Drive Ashmore Park and at March End Road bring the guns debate right into the heart of our neighbourhoods here in Wednesfield North & South.

The police will only be able to tackle this type of crime, if it has full cooperation from our community.

When I recently met Wolverhampton's top cop Chief Superintendent Richard Green we spoke about the rise of gangs and the use of firearms here in Wolverhampton.

The Chief informed me that they had very good strategies for dealing with guns and gun crime. Indeed there is a specific scrutiny committee ( Safer Communities)that is dealing with gun crime, and the police and the City Council are using that forum to debate and address the issues.

What the people and residents of Wednesfield and Wolverhampton need however is reassurance that the police are on top of this type of criminal activity. That needs the police to be more upfront in ensuring that more information is given about the success that they are having in ridding the streets of the hand guns and the armoury that the people behind this type of action has.

In the meantime I make a plea for our community to give as much information that they have to the police, to allow these people behind these two incidents to be caught".
