Crime In Wednesfield

Councillor Phil Bateman said "Crime affects us all ....and part of my Ward of Wednesfield North falls into Beat 17 which includes Wednesfield Village, Wood End, Broad Lane North, Wyvern Park, Lyndale Park Moathouse and Perry Hall."
He added "The latest statistics that the police and the City Council provide give a real good indication on how crime trends are developing.

In this Beat 17 there are 25,401 persons living in 10,584 households.

The number of crimes recorded in the last 12 months is 2176.

In the previous 12 months there were 2335. This equates to a 7% drop in crime in this Beat 17 area.
Burglary 134
Criminal damage 389
Wounding 257
Robbery 63
Theft of motor vehicle 168
Theft from person 11
Theft of pedal cycle 36
The reduction in crime is indeed welcome and residents will be pleased with this. But Burglary Criminal Damage Robbery and Motor Vehicle theft are still big figures for me.I will be speaking with the City Council and the police to find out how they intend handling these issues.

Now taking a look at Ashmore Park & Coppice Farm statistics for the same period. Both these estates make up the other part of my Ward of Wednesfield North you can see how their crime statistics are in comparison.

Ashmore Park and Coppice Farm Estate

There are 7,800 individual persons in 3,400 households in these two estates, this is a big slice of Wednesfield North's population.

These are good strong crime figures and charts that in the last twelve months crime has dropped a remarkable 23% on these two important estates.

There is obviously a real need to keep driving crime figures down.

But I am very greatly encouraged by the latest statistics. It is of course worth noting that the Labour Government has put in more resources in the shape of PCSO's who are now very visible patrolling the two estates, along with the resident beat officers.

The top 5 crimes at the end of this period were;
Criminal Damage 94
Wounding 59
Burglary 30
Theft From Motor Vehicles 25
Theft of Pedal Cycles 15

In Summary

The Wednesfield Beat 17 is by the far larger of the two police Beats, both in area and in population. The very nature of the centre of Wednesfield with its large trading district and industrial estates will be quite different from the largely residential estates like Ashmore Park. But there are a couple of statistics that do worry me in total we had 316 wounding over these two areas and 483 incidents of criminal damage.

I will be asking the analysts why this should be and what action is being taken to drive these two crimes down. Please contact me on email@philbateman.com if you have any comments to make.
