Former Mayor and Mayoress Give Gift To RBL

Councillor Phil Bateman MBE said today " During our year of office as Mayor and Mayoress both Mary and I got to know and respect the veteran soldiers sailors and airmen.
Mary was involved herself in the individual way that she is good at, and during the year recognised that some standard bearers struggled with the standard. She found out that the ex-service personnel struggled during some parades, and after a chat with Jean Lenoir it came to our notice that the strap and sling being used was not conducive to the easy carrying of the British Legion Standards.

Mary was keen that this was rectified, she felt that it would be a lasting gift to the RBL if we purchased the right equipment for the Standard.

I can say that one of the last acts we have involved ourselves in has been to purchase a Brown Leather Sling plus a Brass Sling Bucket so that the standard bearers can once again do their duty in comfort.

Mary and I are pleased to be able to leave this small but important gift to the Royal British Legion as a measure of our gratitude for all that they do for our great City of Wolverhampton and for the ex-servicemen of our City.As a now former Mayor to this City I can say we are honoured with such a dedicated troop of men and women"
