Air Gun's Along the Canal

Councillor Phil Bateman said today "I have received a recent letter from a constituent who is very concerned about the problem of youths who are carrying an air gun and who have taken to shooting wild life along the Wyrley Essington canal.

My constituent has written to me explaining that a family of wild ducks have been shot, and she was very distressed by the incident.

I have no problem in warning about the use of this fire arm in this way. It is illegal to shoot at birds in a public place, many of them are protected species, and all of them deserve not to be hunted in their breeding season.

I shall be making Wednesfield Police aware of this incident and I hope that they will arrange their patrols accordingly.

In the meantime any resident who sees these chaps shooting along the canal, will you please call the police."
